SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- The tech sector got a lift from
gains in shares of Microsoft Corp. and Hewlett-Packard Co. while
shares of Twitter struggles for direction.
Twitter (TWTR) rallied and then slipped into the red before
climbing back more than 1% and then faltering again. The social
network's stock was up more than 18% for the week.
Shares of Facebook Inc. (FB) retreated by 0.5%, while LinkedIn
(LNKD) gave up 0.7%.
Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) was up nearly 1%, one of the best
performers on the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) which was up
69 points. H-P (HPQ) also climbed 1%.
On the downside, shares of Apple Inc. (AAPL) shed nearly 1%,
while Yahoo inc. (YHOO) was off 0.6%. Yahoo was one of the worst
performers on the S&P 500(SPX), which was up 0.2%.
But the tech sector managed to stay positive as the Nasdaq
Composite Index (RIXF) edged higher by 0.2%. The Morgan Stanley
High Tech 35 Index (MSH) and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index
(SOX) were each up a fraction.
