Fiat SpA (F.MI) Friday said that it has made no offer to acquire an interest in General Motors Corp.'s (GM) Adam Opel GmbH.

In a statement, Fiat said that it was making the clarification at the request of the Italian stock market regulator Consob.

"Fiat wishes to clarify that, except as already announced in relation to the strategic alliance with Chrysler, no offer has been made to acquire an interest in Opel."

Fiat added that it frequently examines - like other groups in the sector - opportunities for agreements of various types which would offer it operational synergies and access to new markets.
