Siemens AG's transport division has received an order worth $3.4
billion in the U.S. to design, manufacture and technically support
multi-powered trains for rail operator Amtrak.
The German engineering conglomerate said Wednesday that the
order for Siemens Mobility covers 73 trains, with an option for up
to 140 additional trains and maintenance agreements. The first
train is scheduled to be delivered in 2024.
"These new trains will reshape the future of rail travel by
replacing our aging 40-to-50-year old fleet with state-of-the-art,
American-made equipment," said Amtrak Chief Executive Officer Bill
Flynn.
