LISBON--Portuguese energy company Energias de Portugal SA (EDP.LB) said Tuesday third-quarter net profit fell slightly because of lower contributions from operations in Brazil and higher income taxes.

MAIN FACTS:

-Net profit decreased slightly to 212.8 million euros ($272.4 million) in the third quarter from EUR215 million a year earlier. A Dow Jones Newswires poll of three analysts estimated a net profit of EUR181.8 million for the period.

-Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, or Ebitda, increased to EUR857.3 million from EUR829.8 million a year earlier.

-Ebitda from Brazilian operations fell 39% to EUR99.4 million.

-Income taxes soared to EUR114.2 million from EUR21.7 million a year ago.
