Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) has been recognized by both Military
Times and Military Friendly® as a top employer for veterans and
military families.
Military Times, a leading source for independent news and
information for service members and their families, ranked Humana
#14 in its Healthcare category on its 2024 Best for Vets: Employers
list. Now in its 15th year, Military Times Best for Vets rankings
are based on a voluntary survey covering policies and practices
that make companies attractive to the military community.
Recruitment and employment practices, as well as retention and
support programs, are given the most weight and importance in
scoring and final rankings.
Military Friendly®, established in 2003 to advocate for civilian
career opportunities for veterans, annually releases a list of
employers demonstrating commitment, effort and success in creating
sustainable and meaningful career opportunities for the military
community. For the 2025 list, Humana receives the “Gold”
designation in the large company category (defined as having over
$5 billion in revenue) and is recognized on the following specialty
lists:
- Military Spouse-Friendly Employer
- Military Friendly Supplier Diversity
- Military Friendly Brand
- Military Friendly Company
“Active-duty service members, National reservists, veterans, and
their family members have made extraordinary commitments to our
nation, and Humana is dedicated to supporting our military
community,” said Carolyn Tandy, SVP and Chief Diversity, Equity,
and Inclusion Officer. “Our ability to provide high-quality
healthcare is rooted in the diversity of our workforce. We
recognize the importance of having a workforce that understands the
unique experiences and needs of the military communities we serve,
and we are taking intentional action to support career
opportunities and advancements for veterans and military
families.”
Humana launched its Veteran Hiring Initiative in 2011, resulting
in the hiring of roughly 6,000 veterans and military spouses to
date. Earlier this year, Humana renewed the initiative with a
commitment to hire at least 2,000 military-connected employees by
2032, aiming for a retention rate of 75% in the first year of
employment, increasing to 90% for years 2 – 5 of employment.
