Largest Single Grant in Clubs' History WASHINGTON, March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington (BGCGW) is the proud beneficiary of a $1.5 million grant from the Freddie Mac Foundation in McLean, Virginia. This unprecedented award is the largest grant ever received in the 120-year history of BGCGW -- nearly doubling the amount of monetary support given by the Freddie Mac Foundation to BGCGW in the past two years. "We are believers in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington. The Clubs provide outstanding programs and activities for our city's youth that open a world of possibilities to them," said Maxine B. Baker, president and CEO, Freddie Mac Foundation. "We consider helping youth achieve and succeed a great return on our investment, and we are proud to be long-time supporters." The $1.5 million grant will help BGCGW build and expand several programs including: the Education Initiative -- a program used to provide skill- building and learning activities to over 1,000 DC youth; Camp Brown -- BGCGW's overnight summer camp which houses 1,000 youth throughout the summer; and BGCGW's Come on Home Alumni Campaign. "Our corporate, government and community partnerships are what keep us going at BGCGW. We are so grateful to the Freddie Mac Foundation for stepping up to the plate and believing in our mission by awarding us this extraordinary grant," commented Will A. Gunn, President and CEO, BGCGW. "It is socially responsible corporate citizens like the Freddie Mac Foundation that allow us to continue our great work of serving nearly 36,000 youth in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia." The Freddie Mac Foundation has been an active supporter for 14 years. In 2003, the Foundation invested $550,000 to start the Education Initiative in six of the Washington, DC clubs. This new grant will allow the Education Initiative to expand into six additional clubs; thus, providing the program to all of the Washington, DC clubs. The Freddie Mac Foundation was also the first organization to step up to the plate in 2005 issuing a challenge grant of $100,000 to other corporate organizations to reopen Camp Brown -- BGCGW's overnight summer camp located in Scottsdale, Maryland. The camp was closed due to financial constraints in 2004 and was threatened of not being able to open in 2005. Because of the generosity of the Freddie Mac Foundation the camp not only opened, but also helped raise over $460,000 to successfully run the camp for 750 youth.
