Freeport McMoRan Partially Restarts New Jersey Copper-Products Plant
30 November 2012 - 11:34PM
Dow Jones News
Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc.'s (FCX) copper-products
plant in New Jersey has partially restarted operating after
superstorm Sandy damaged the facility, a spokesman told Dow Jones
Newswires Friday.
"Production at Bayway has recommenced in certain sections of the
plant. Limited quantities of their primary products are being
delivered," Freeport spokesman Eric Kinneberg said in an email.
The Bayway plant produces a variety of copper wire and tube
products used in applications like aerospace, medicine,
transportation and communications.
"Work continues on refurbishing equipment for an expected full
recovery of plant operations, the timing of which is uncertain," he
said.
Sandy swept through the region on Oct. 29, causing widespread
flooding in New Jersey and New York City. Freeport's Bayway
facility is located in an industrial zone in Elizabeth, N.J., and
is adjacent to a tidal strait that separates Staten Island from New
Jersey.
