In the 12 weeks ended Oct. 11, the number three grocer by market share boosted sales 1.1% to 4.08 billion pounds ($6.3 billion), according to Kantar, which monitors the household grocery purchasing habits of 25,000 demographically representative households in the U.K. Its market share stood at 16.1%

Number one retailer Tesco PLC's (TSCO.LN) market share fell to 28.1% in the 12 weeks, compared with 28.8% in the comparable period ended Oct. 12, 2014. Tesco's sales are down 1.7% over the period at GBP6.89 billion.

Asda, a subsidiary of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT), saw its market share fall to 16.6%, from 17.3% for the comparable 12 weeks, with sales 3% lower at GBP4.08 billion.

Once again German discounters Aldi and Lidl continued to grow market share and sales. Aldi and Lidl's combined market share rose to 9.9% in the 12 weeks ended Oct. 11, compared with 8.5% in the year earlier period.
