PSA Peugeot Citroën (Paris:UG):
To meet strong demand in the Chinese market, the Valenciennes
mechanical components plant has scheduled the additional production
of 5,500 AL4 automatic transmissions from April to June 2014. In
response, management announced at a Works Council meeting that at
the end of March, two shifts – a permanent night shift and a
weekend shift – will be organised on the automatic transmission
production line.
Organising these two shifts will enable the hiring of around 50
temporary employees and the introduction of three additional work
sessions in April.
Daily output of the AL4 automatic transmission will increase
from the current 1,300 units to 1,600 in April, 1,800 in May and
nearly 1,900 in June.
Including the five and six-speed manual gearboxes and the manual
compact automated gearbox, total daily production at the
Valenciennes plant will rise to 6,100 units in April, 6,750 in May
and 6,900 in June.
The plant exports more than 70% of its total automatic
transmission output to Chinese customers.
These transmissions equip half of all the vehicles sold by the
Peugeot and Citroën brands worldwide. The Valenciennes plant
currently employs 2,200 people.
