Award Presented by Hu Jintao, President of the People's Republic of
China PROVO, Utah, Dec. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Nu Skin
Enterprises' (NYSE: NUS) China region was honored with the China
Charity Award, the most prestigious charity award in the country by
the Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs. Hu Jintao, president of the
People's Republic of China, presented the award to Andrew Fan,
president of the company's Greater China region, during an awards
ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. "This year Nu
Skin's culture of giving was demonstrated in numerous ways,
particularly in China following the Sichuan earthquake and
devastating snow storms," said Truman Hunt, president and chief
executive officer of Nu Skin Enterprises. "We applaud our Greater
China staff and sales force who came together to provide quick and
significant relief to those affected by disaster. Nu Skin China
truly made a difference as they executed on our mission to be a
force for good in the world." One of Nu Skin China's primary
charitable efforts came in the wake of the disastrous Sichuan
earthquake in May. The Nu Skin Force for Good Foundation, along
with company distributors and employees, donated cash, food and
supplies valued at nearly 33 million RMB ($4.8 million) to assist
in the relief efforts. The earthquake happened just before the
opening of the Greater China Region Convention in Hong Kong, and
prompted an immediate response from Nu Skin staff and distributors
in attendance. Donated food and supplies were dispatched to the
devastated areas in a matter of days and Fan and his management
team visited the most seriously hit areas less than two weeks after
the earthquake to help determine the needs of those affected. Once
initial needs were met, Nu Skin China worked to create a
microfinance program in cooperation with the China Foundation of
Poverty Alleviation, China's most reputable charity organization.
In addition to their assistance during the Sichuan earthquake, Nu
Skin China and its distributors provided relief in the wake of
record snow storms that plagued many southern Chinese provinces
during the Chinese New Year, shutting down business and
transportation and stranding hundreds of thousands of people. Nu
Skin China also collaborated with the Shanghai Charity Foundation
and the Fudan University Children's hospital to set up the China
Children's Heart Surgery Fund, offering a 10-year sponsorship on
heart surgeries for the children in China. The Company Nu Skin
