Online Public School’s Inaugural Year Begins
August 2019
The Ohio Digital Learning School (ODLS), a tuition-free online
public charter school, authorized by the Ohio Council of Community
Schools (OCCS), welcomes families with students in grades 9-12 aged
16-21 who reside in Ohio to enroll for the 2019-20 academic
year.
Through its engaging web-based platform, live online learning
sessions, and support from experienced teachers and counselors,
ODLS will provide an education option that offers an individualized
approach to learning for students of every ability level, including
a competency in helping students who are struggling
academically.
ODLS will serve as a dropout prevention and recovery charter
school (DPRS), serving students from traditional schools with
diverse learning needs, providing an education option for students
who are struggling academically that inspires them to work hard and
succeed, and offering several programs such as self-improvement
workshops that address students’ individual academic challenges.
Credit recovery courses are available for students who need to
catch up in a subject, as well as highly targeted remediation
sessions to build specific skills.
Ohio-licensed teachers will work to develop students’ strengths
while also addressing the areas where they need more focus. They
will provide instruction, guidance and support, and regularly
interact with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms,
online discussions and phone.
“The opening of ODLS significantly expands opportunities for
students and families in a population that may need a little help
in completing their high school diploma,” said Elizabeth Roth, Head
of School for ODLS. “We are committed to student success and will
offer a high level of academic and emotional support for our
students to help them to get and stay on track.”
According to the Thomas B Fordham Institute, in 2016-17, nearly
12.5 percent of Ohio’s charter school enrollments are in the
dropout prevention and recovery charter system, or roughly 14,000
Ohio students.
Students at every grade level will also be encouraged to connect
with their peers and participate in school-sponsored activities,
such as online recognition assemblies and clubs, optional community
outings, and student leadership opportunities.
ODLS is now accepting enrollments for the 2019-2020 school year.
Parents are encouraged to attend one of the online information
sessions hosted by the school each month. More information on ODLS
and upcoming events can be found at odls.k12.com.
