A jury awarded $500,000 in punitive damages to an Ohio man who
sued DuPont Co. (DD), alleging that he developed cancer because the
company discharged the C-8 chemical into the Ohio River, Bloomberg
News reported Friday.
On Wednesday, after the jury awarded him $5.1 million in
compensatory damages, DuPont spinoff Chemours Co. (CC) said the
verdict would be appealed.
According to the Bloomberg report, an attorney for the plaintiff
argued Thursday that DuPont should pay punitive damages far above
the $5.1 million verdict.
Chemours shares were up 16% to $7.62 on Friday. DuPont rose 2.5%
to $63.49.
