Recognized for Radically Innovative Digital Experience

Recently, Utah.Gov and the Utah Division of Archives and Records Service received the Government Experience Award from the Center for Digital Government. It honored the division’s services for excellence in Government-to-Government services. Utah leads the country by integrating automated reminders with Google calendars and interactive voice services on the Amazon Echo. The application takes advantage of the Google Now intelligent personal assistant to deliver more useful, personalized information about attending public meetings. Residents can also ask Amazon Echo’s personal digital assistant, Alexa, to learn more about meetings.

“The innovative web-based application fully integrates state and local government mandated notifications,” said Ken Williams, director of the Utah Division of Archives and Records Service. “Over 5,000 state and local government employees in Utah use this tool to post meetings for the public.”

The Government Experience Awards recognize the achievements and best practices that have gone to the Web and beyond to radically improve the experience of government and push the boundaries of how citizen services are delivered.

“The website is no longer the only experience they use—it’s now one of many channels in their overall experience,” said Dustin Haisler, Chief Innovation Officer for the Center for Digital Government. “The Government Experience Awards were developed to recognize government agencies that are focusing on designing and delivering services across the overall experience and not necessarily just one channel.”

In addition, Utah received the Government Experience Innovation Award. The award recognizes the achievements of states that have radically improved the experience of government and push the boundaries of how citizen services are delivered.
