On December 7, 2015, Nebraska military honor license plates became available for purchase online for qualifying military personnel who are currently on active duty or are veterans of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corp or National Guard.

Establishing eligibility and identifying the branch of service is the first step to obtain a military plate. The user will be required to apply to the Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs Military & Veteran's Registry at https://www.nebraska.gov/va_registry/index.cgi before proceeding to the online specialty plate application for their plates.

“Within the first 24 hours of the military honor license plates becoming available, 206 plates were processed. Over 800 plates total were processed in the first three weeks of being available. I think that speaks volumes of our military pride here in Nebraska,” stated Rhonda Lahm, Director of the Motor Vehicles. “We couldn’t do it without Nebraska.gov.”

“We are excited to offer this online service through our collaboration with the DMV,” stated Brent Hoffman, general manager of Nebraska Interactive.

Standard numeric plates and special message plates featuring the logos of each branch can be found at http://www.clickdmv.ne.gov under vehicle services. Additional Nebraska vehicle plate choices can also be found such as the newly added Sesquicentennial plates. Funds acquired by the sales of the plates are earmarked for operation and maintenance of the Veterans Cemeteries located in Nebraska.
