New website showcases Texas as a great option
for veterans
The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and Texas Veterans
Commission (TVC), in partnership with Texas.gov, are proud to
announce the launch of Texas Wide Open for Veterans
(www.TexasWideOpenforVeterans.com), a new website that illustrates
why Texas is such a great home for veterans and businesses that
employ veterans. The website features compelling reasons why
veterans should consider making Texas their new home, including
affordable housing markets, significant job growth, and a diverse
culture. Texas Wide Open for Veterans also gives employers critical
information about how actively hiring veterans can help their
company thrive in Texas.
“Our state has so much to offer,” said TWC Commissioner
Representing Employers, Hope Andrade. “With the highest job growth
in the country, there are many opportunities for these veterans to
find work in a variety of industries in Texas. We believe Texas is
the best place to live, work and raise a family, and we want to
make sure our men and women in uniform know that we’d love for them
to make Texas their home.”
The veteran community can visit Texas Wide Open for Veterans
to:
- Use the robust map to locate military
bases, airports, universities, community colleges, VA hospitals,
parks, and job centers across Texas;
- Check the Events calendar to view
upcoming veteran events, and even submit a request to add an event;
and
- Submit questions via the Contact form
which are routed to the appropriate group for response.
Texas employers can utilize Texas Wide Open for Veterans to:
- Learn about the Work Opportunity Tax
Credit that offers up to $9,600 federal tax savings to employers
who hire veterans; and
- Find out if they qualify for funds and
grants offered by the State of Texas to companies looking to grow
in Texas.
Texas Wide Open for Veterans is a convenient, helpful resource
for veterans as they research relocation destinations and for
businesses looking to strengthen their workforce.
