Residents can get annual tax bill email
notifications to avoid missing deadlines
March 1 marks the start of the 2013 property tax payment season
and the launch of an email notification system that will help
Saline County residents pay their taxes on time. Taxpayers can now
go paperless by signing up to receive emails when their annual tax
statement is available online and property taxes are due.
“We are proud to partner with the Information Network of
Arkansas to offer this service and help residents stay on top of
their property taxes in a way that is convenient for them,” Saline
County Collector Joy Ballard said. “Going paperless will also save
our county government money by greatly reducing the number of
annual tax statements my staff has to print and mail.”
In 2013, Saline County mailed approximately 68,000 tax
statements at 56 cents each. The collector’s annual postage budget
is $43,000. Paper and printing costs are an additional $10,000.
Saline County has been emailing property tax payment reminders
and receipts for several years, but did not have the authority to
send electronic tax statements until Act 27 passed last year. The
new law, which was sponsored by Representative Andy Mayberry, aims
to reduce government costs and allows county collectors to create
paperless email registries.
Tax statement emails will include a “View Your Bill” link, which
will open the taxpayer’s information on the Saline County
Collector’s website. From there, taxes can be paid with just a few
mouse clicks or taps on a mobile device. Ballard said providing
access to online bill payment through enotify may help the county
collect more tax payments. According to lists published on the
Saline County Collector’s website in January, more than 17,300 tax
bills from 2012 are still delinquent.
To register for enotify, Saline County taxpayers can go to
AR.gov/SalinePropTax and click the "Begin enotify” button.
Residents who sign up will no longer receive annual tax statements
in the mail, but will still receive paper statements if their taxes
are adjusted throughout the year. Taxpayers can unsubscribe at any
time to switch back to paper statements.
Arkansas personal property and real estate taxes are due October
15. Saline County residents and business owners can pay their
county taxes online with a Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American
Express credit card or an electronic check through a secure payment
processing system. Payments can also be made in person at the
Benton or Bryant Revenue Offices, by phone, at the drop box at the
Benton office, or by mailing a check payable to the Saline County
Tax Collector.
