NXT Technology to be Licensed by 3M in Exclusive Deal
NXT PLC, the British audio and speech technology company, today announces that
it has entered into an agreement with the US based, diversified technology
company, 3M. Through the new agreement NXT issues 3M an exclusive worldwide
license for technology unrelated to NXT's speaker technology.
The technology will be licensed to 3M Innovative Properties Company and will be
commercialised through 3M's Display and Graphics Business. Under the terms of
the agreement, 3M will pay NXT a US$4 million up-front payment and royalties for
the life of the patents. As part of its commercialisation efforts 3M will also
sponsor continuing research at NXT as part of the agreement.
David Pearson, NXT's Chief Executive commented: "This new relationship with 3M
is good news for NXT. The development of this new technology reflects the depth
of our understanding of bending wave technology and is part of our on-going
effort to leverage this intellectual capital base to create new revenue streams.
The relationship with 3M is part of our long-term strategy of partnering with
industry leaders in commercialising our technologies. This has been evident in
our relationships with global brands such as NEC and Philips.
NXT and 3M continue to investigate opportunities to strengthen the relationship
between the companies which may include ways to implement NXT's SoundVu(R)
technology in other 3M products.
