GYRUS APPOINT THEIR FIRST PRESIDENT AND CEO IN USA


Gyrus Group PLC (Gyrus) has appointed Mr Chris M. Smith (38) as President and
Chief Executive Officer of their wholly owned subsidiary, Everest Medical. 
This is a new appointment, effective from 30th October 2000.  Mr Smith will
also be appointed a Director of Gyrus Group PLC and will be based in
Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Chris Smith brings to the Group over sixteen years of broad management
experience in the health care industry having started his career in sales with
Abbott Laboratories.  He held management positions in sales and marketing at
Kinetic Concepts and Midmark before being appointed Chief Operating Officer at
Prism Enterprises.  He joins Gyrus from American Health Sciences where he was
President of the company.  This new appointment, part of the restructuring of
the Group as a whole, brings the management team up to strength in the USA.

The appointment of David Ball as Sales Director, together with the acquisition
of SkyMed earlier this month, provide the sales and distribution platform for
Gyrus outside the USA.  The rapid growth of the Gyrus direct business will be
further accelerated by the strengthening of the management team, notably in
sales, marketing and distribution, which commenced earlier this year.  The
company, now very much market driven, is leveraging its technology to expand
the product portfolio whilst establishing global distribution.

Brian Steer, Chairman of the Gyrus Group, commented: "These appointments,
together with the acquisition of SkyMed, signal the commitment of the Gyrus
Group to the direct commercialisation of their technology investment.  We now
have the capability in place to sell and distribute PlasmaKinetic driven
systems on a world-wide basis and intend to capitalise on our technology
lead."
