Statement in respect of Lloyd's Announcement Regarding Central Fund Arbitration


Benfield Group Limited ("Benfield" or the "Company"), the world's leading
independent reinsurance and risk intermediary, notes that Lloyd's of London has
announced today that it has decided to commence legal action against Benfield's
wholly owned subsidiary company, Benfield Limited, and another broker in respect
of an insurance of the Lloyd's Central Fund incepted 1 January 1999. Benfield is
disappointed that Lloyd's has considered it necessary to take this action. As
previously disclosed in Benfield's Financial Statements, Benfield believes,
based on professional advice, that these proceedings will not result in a
material liability to Benfield, nor to its professional indemnity insurers.
Benfield will defend any action vigorously.
