"A decision to this effect has been made by the executive team following months of discussion and efforts devoted to ensuring the maintenance of ties to the site where operations began in 1786. Our Montréal roots run deep and we are proud to honour our commitment to preserve a presence in the city," stated Frederic Landtmeters, Chief Executive Officer of Molson Coors Canada.

"Molson Coors has been and will continue to be embedded in the fabric of Montreal for many years to come. Choosing to keep its corporate offices in Montreal is great news for our economy. This decision clearly highlights a strong bond between the company and the City of Montreal. Not only will quality jobs be maintained, but the maintenance of administrative activities at the current site will also be decisive for the redefinition of the Faubourgs sector we are currently undertaking," said Valérie Plante, mayor of Montreal.

A reflection on the future of the site and an imminent sale

For months now, Molson and the City of Montréal have been collaborating to reflect on the future of the site on Notre-Dame street in a context of transformation of the area. Therefore, meetings are held with the Borough of Ville-Marie and city officials to get an agreement in principle for the development of the site and draft a statement of heritage interest for the land owned by Molson. As Mr. Landtmeters underscored, "The move will provide for the redevelopment of the site and the creation of a new Montréal neighbourhood to honour the history of the brewery and the Molson family."

As regards to the sale of the site, it will be put up for sale this fall. Before being able to expound at greater length on the impact that the decision is likely to have on existing infrastructure and company employees, a number of outstanding items remain to be settled.

"A project of this scope takes many years to materialize and it is only normal that certain aspects have yet to be finalized.  For us at Molson, it is essential that we do things right out of respect for our employees and given the heritage value of our company," Mr. Landtmeters concluded.
