MOBOTIX Corp., an industry-leading provider of high-resolution, network-based security solutions, today announced the Security Industry Association (SIA) has deployed a comprehensive IP surveillance system to secure its new headquarters. SIA, a non-profit organization that protects and advances the interests of the global security industry, is using MOBOTIX megapixel cameras and MxControlCenter video management software to protect their employees and visitors, as well as deter crime and record any incidents.

SIA recently transitioned from their previous Alexandria, Va., office to a new facility in Silver Spring, Md. The new office, which is located adjacent to a busy Metrorail station, now features MOBOTIX Q24 cameras and a T24 door station to obtain critical views of entryways, exist and critical areas. The Q24 is a discreet, high-resolution camera that leverages hemispheric technology to provide 360-degree views. The T24 is an IP door station that combines two-way audio with a high-resolution, panoramic camera that offers a 180-degree field of view for unmatched clarity.

The T24 is installed outside SIA’s office suite and provides a complete view of the elevator and foyer, and also provides access control measures. As an organization dedicated to security, SIA took the unique approach of enabling all employees to have access to the T24 camera feed in order to identify visitors before opening the door.

“We wanted to provide that added layer of security as well as a deterrent,” said Rand Price, Chief Operating Officer, SIA. “Our highest-level objective is safety. We use the cameras and video system to control access to our facility and investigate any incidents. We have far more capability than we did in the past.”

The MOBOTIX cameras provide advanced video quality through use of megapixel sensors. One MOBOTIX camera with 3.1 megapixels records 30 times more detail than traditional CCTV cameras, making 180- and 360-degree hemispheric views possible. With MOBOTIX’s hemispheric technology, Force Security Solutions, the integrator on the project, drastically reduced the number of cameras needed to cover the facility and, therefore, overall system cost.

SIA was able to get more features than anticipated by deploying MxControlCenter, professional video management software from MOBOTIX that connects any number of cameras at any location with centralized or local, user-based operation and evaluation. MxControlCenter features simple configuration and installation, floor plans and a user-friendly interface, and it allows for an unlimited number of authorized users. The software is included with the MOBOTIX cameras at no additional charge.

“With the Q24 and T24, we have the complete surveillance coverage SIA required, with significantly less cameras than would be needed with other devices,” said Ken Kocher, President, Force Security Solutions. “The coverage we were able to provide with six cameras would require 12 to 14 cameras with traditional cameras.”

SIA found additional value in MOBOTIX’s decentralized system. Each MOBOTIX camera comes equipped with a high-speed computer, which reduces network bandwidth because images are processed on the camera. The decentralized concept can preserve critical video data in case of network failure and reduces the need for an external storage appliance.

“We are incredibly honored that a reputable industry association such as SIA would select MOBOTIX to secure its main office, employees and visitors,” said Steve Gorski, General Manager, Americas, MOBOTIX. “This project is further proof that our megapixel cameras provide the highest level of security, with a decentralized approach that is very practical for a variety of businesses and organizations.”
