Spirent Communications(TM) Wins Major Contract for Next Generation IP and ATM Diagnostics LAS VEGAS, Oct. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- USTA -- Spirent Communications (NYSE:SPM) (LONDON: SPT) announced today it has been selected by a leading North American service provider to provide its latest solution for next-generation IP and ATM test and diagnostics. Spirent's SmartSight(TM) Broadband Remote Test Unit (BRTU) and associated REACT software modules will be deployed throughout the service provider's ATM network. The three-year, multi-million dollar agreement marks the first major deployment of Spirent's newest solution for broadband and further validates Spirent's leading role in service assurance for next-generation IP technologies. SmartSight's ability to scale was a major factor in its selection. First stages of deployment are expected to begin by the end of the year. SmartSight BRTU is a new network appliance designed to interface with next-generation ADMs and MSPPs. The device enables testing, provisioning, and maintenance of services from the metro edge and includes a full suite of tests from DS1, DS3, OC-3 and OC-12 signals and IP, VoIP, ATM and Frame Relay services. Customers benefit from increased efficiency of the troubleshooting process and reduced need for technicians to become experts in all protocols and technologies across all seven layers of the OSI model. The SmartSight BRTU architecture is extensible to new hardware modules for higher-speed interfaces such as OC-48, OC-192, and 10 Gigabit Ethernet, and provides flexibility in allowing support for new technology standards via software upgrades.
