SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch)--Shares of Cisco Systems and
Facebook Inc. rallied Wednesday, but the tech sector was weighed
down by slumping shares of Micron Technology.
Cisco (CSCO) rose 1.5% to close at $25.44, one of the best
performers on the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI), which was up
79 points.
Facebook (FB) was up 3.5% to close at $64.97. The tech sector
also got a boost from shares of Groupon Inc.(GRPN), which gained
4.8% to close at $6.58 and Hewlett-Packard(HPQ), which added 0.5%
to close at $33.65.
On the downside, shares of Micron Technology (MU) fell nearly 1%
to close at $32.89, while Microsoft (MSFT) slipped 0.3% to close at
$41.67.
The Nasdaq Composite Index (RIXF) edged higher by 0.6% to close
at 4,419. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) and the Morgan
Stanley High Tech 35 Index (MSH) were each up a fraction.
