Molex to Have iPass+™ HD Connector Included in SAS 2.1 Standard

Molex Incorporated (NASDAQ:MOLX)(NASDAQ:MOLXA) today announced
it has won the vote for the iPass+TM HD system to move forward for
inclusion in the Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) 2.1 standard. The SAS
2.1 standard is created by the International Committee for
Information Technology Standards (INCITS) which is accredited by
and operates under rules approved by the American National
Standards Institute. Molex provides assistance to many standard
setting committees and groups from the earliest stages of
development.
This vote included new high-density internal and external
connector I/Os. The Molex solution provided the same port density
for low profile PCIe cards as the current Molex iPass+ solution
does for standard height PCIe cards. The planned release of the SAS
2.1 standard will be at the end of 2009.
Several OEMs needed the higher-density connector solution for
the new SAS switch and RAID controller products much sooner than
the previous 2011 release plan for SAS 3.0, said Debbie Kiley,
high speed I/O group product manager, Molex Incorporated. Molex
was honored to be selected for inclusion in the SAS 2.1. This win
validates our strong presence and participation in leading
standards organizations and our continued commitment to develop
innovative product designs.
Several months ago, the T10 SCSI Standards Committee, a
committee within INCITS, moved forward with requirements for a new
high-density SAS 6 Gbps (12 Gbps capable) I/O connector and
scheduled a selection vote in the Oklahoma City March meeting. The
Molex iPass+ HD system was chosen in the SAS Phy Work Group meeting
on March 17 and recommended to the T10 Plenary meeting on March
19.
Several other products are moving through the standardization
process. Molexs QSFP interconnect system, already part of the
InfiniBand Specification, has also just been submitted to the T10
Standards Group for inclusion in SAS 2.1 and is moving through the
IEEE 802.3ba 40G/100G standard development process. Similarly,
Molexs CXP I/O connector is being incorporated in the 120 Gbps 12x
Small Form-factor Pluggable InfiniBand specification and also is
being written into the IEEE 802.3ba 40G/100G Ethernet standard as
the 100G solution as it moves through the process. Customers are
already ordering the CXP I/O and QSFP connector for their new
product designs.
