Hawaii takes No. 1 spot for the first time in state history

NIC Inc. (NASDAQ: EGOV), the dominant provider of eGovernment services, congratulates five of its state partners for being ranked as the Top 5 best state government websites in the country. It has been three years since NIC partners took all of the Top 5 honors. The rankings were announced by the Center for Digital Government as part of its annual “Best of the Web” competition.

For the first time in the state’s history, Hawaii took top honors, ranking as the best state government website in the country. The official state website, http://www.eHawaii.gov, was recognized for enhanced mobile and touch screen capabilities, as well as the my.hawaii.gov dashboard and the data.hawaii.gov new data portal. My.hawaii.gov uses gaming elements to help citizens track paper saved, minutes saved, and miles not driven by conducting state government transactions online. In 2013, the state’s web portal was recognized as a Best of the Web finalist.

Rounding out the Top 5 were Utah in second place, Arkansas in third place, Texas in fourth place, and Maryland in fifth place. NIC partner states of Indiana, Kansas, Nebraska, and Oregon were recognized as finalists. This is the fourth consecutive year Utah has ranked as one of the Top 5 state websites, and the first time in history that Oregon has ranked among the top state websites in the country.

“We have a single focus at NIC, and that is to join forces with our government partners to make government more accessible for everyone through technology,” said Harry Herington, NIC Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. “It is great to see these partnerships resulting in the ‘best of the best’ state web portals in the United States. All of us at NIC are honored to work every day with all of our government partners.”

The Center for Digital Government is an international research and advisory institute on the use of information technology in government. The “Best of the Web” Awards will be presented October 23, 2014 in San Francisco.
