New programmable, highly integrated modulator, demodulator and dual-mixer simplify design in 3G/4G communications, military/aerospace and instrumentation equipment applications.

INTERNATIONAL MICROWAVE SYMPOSIUM-- Analog Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADI) today introduced new highly integrated RF ICs that greatly simplify the design and reduce the development cost of multi-band base stations and point-to-point (PtP) radios. These new devices include the ADRF6720 I/Q modulator, ADRF6820 I/Q demodulator and ADRF6612 dual-mixer. The highly integrated devices enable the design of base station and high-performance radios requiring multi-band support, high dynamic range and wide channel bandwidths. These products are ideal for designs for 3G/4G communication, microwave PtP radios, military/aerospace and instrumentation applications. ADI’s new RF ICs offer the same performance as radio designs based on a combination of discrete solutions, yet in a significantly smaller form factor. The new devices feature an embedded low phase noise synthesizer, RF switch and balun, digital step attenuator (DSA) and programmable linearity optimization.

More About the ADRF6720 I/Q Modulator

The ADRF6720 is a 700 MHz to 3 GHz quadrature modulator integrated with a low-phase-noise synthesizer and output RF balun. This modulator is ideal for multi-band, high-performance transmit solutions for base stations, PtP radio and high-dynamic-range radios enabling channel bandwidths up to 1 GHz. The ADRF6720 also features digital programmability for image rejection and carrier feed-through correction as well as linearity optimization.

More About the ADRF6820 I/Q Demodulator

The ADRF6820 is a 695 MHz to 2.7 GHz I/Q demodulator integrated with a low-phase-noise synthesizer, a 2:1 input RF switch, tunable RF balun, and a RF DSA. The integrated demodulator is ideal for use as an observation receiver and direct conversion receiver in wireless infrastructure applications. Additional features include digital programmability for linearity optimization and I/Q phase and gain mismatch correction.

More About the ADRF6612 Dual RF Mixer

The ADRF6612 is a wideband, dual-channel RF down-converter with an integrated IF amplifier, programmable RF balun and low-phase-noise synthesizer. The device is fully specified to operate from 700 MHz to 2.7 GHz. This wideband, high-linearity mixer is ideal for dual-channel main and diversity receivers commonly used in 3G/4G wireless infrastructure applications. High input linearity and low noise enable the ADRF6612 to be used in applications where in-band blocking signals may degrade dynamic range. In addition, the noise figure under blocking condition performance is competitive compared to existing narrowband passive mixers.
