Announces deal with Kobayashi for distribution of Gyrus ENT Products in Japan

Gyrus Group PLC ("Gyrus" or "the Group"), whose innovative medical devices
focus on the management of tissue using less traumatic techniques, today
announces agreement with Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Co Ltd ("Kobayashi") for
distribution of Gyrus ENT's products in Japan.


Key highlights:

*         Gyrus and Kobayashi announce today that they have entered into a
long term (10 year) contract under which Kobayashi will be the exclusive
distributor for Gyrus ENT's products in Japan commencing 1st January 2002.

*         Kobayashi is the recognized leader within the Japanese ENT market
having until recently distributed products for Xomed, the principal competitor
of Gyrus ENT.  Kobayashi has a dedicated ENT salesforce of 13.

*         Kobayashi is a publicly listed company in Japan with annual revenues
of US$1.8 billion.  Founded in 1886, it employs more than 2,000 people in
three operating divisions.  The medical device division currently represents
8.3% of turnover.

*         The market for ENT products in Japan is estimated at US$34.7 million.



Commenting on the deal, Mark Goble, Group Chief Executive, today said:

"Gyrus ENT previously distributed its products through the Japanese affiliate
of Smith+Nephew, Smith+Nephew KK, who had a significantly lower profile in the
ENT sector compared to Kobayashi's dedicated ENT salesforce.  I am delighted
at the commitment Kobayashi has made to a long term relationship and, as a
result, fully anticipate significant near term growth in our Japanese
business."

Commenting on the deal, Akira Horiguchi, Senior Executive Vice President of
Kobayashi, today said:

use in ENT surgery, we are sure that we will have a strong position in the
Japanese market in the near future."
