Spain is not planning to attend a meeting Friday in Berlin for countries with Adam Opel GmbH manufacturing plants called by Germany, a Spanish official said.

The official said Spanish Industry Minister Miguel Sebastian will be traveling to Berlin Friday, but is planning to meet only with representatives of Magna International Inc. (MGA), the Austrian-Canadian auto parts maker that is leading a consortium to take over Opel.

While Germany has favored Magna's takeover of the troubled European unit of General Motors Co., it has been opposed by Spain because of its expected impact on Opel jobs in Spain. The Opel plant in Figueruelas, Spain, employs 7,500 workers.
