Chrysler LLC idled production at its Canadian minivan plant Wednesday and warned other factories may be affected because of a part problem.

The auto maker said production at the Windsor, Ontario, plant was halted early Wednesday after an undisclosed problem with the shipment of aluminum engine and transmission brackets from an undisclosed supplier.

The company is attempting to shift production to its Etobickoe Casting plant in Canada.

Chrysler, in a written statement, said it may have to idle its Brampton, Ontario, plant and other factories in North America if production can't be shifted quickly.

The part problem comes as Chrysler is racing to solidify an alliance with Fiat SpA (FIATY) in order to receive more federal financial aid and survive.
