Executives learned the true meaning of "sweat equity" as they
partnered with Habitat for Humanity, the Boys & Girls Clubs of
Las Vegas and Lake Mead National Recreation Area Leaving
big-business and corporate traditions aside, more than 600 Unilever
executives recently rolled up their sleeves and descended on the
Las Vegas metro area last week, taking part in community service
projects during its annual customer marketing and development
conference. Reflecting Unilever's three corporate charitable
partnerships, employees helped build housing with Habitat for
Humanity, refurbished the Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas'
playgrounds and facilities as well as participated in restoration
and beautification activities at the Lake Mead National Recreation
Area. "This effort marks our ongoing commitment to deliver fully on
Unilever's mission of adding vitality to life, by actively
supporting our company's three charitable partnerships. We are
dedicated to the well-being of our consumers and the neighborhoods
in which they live," stated Art Drogue, Sr. Vice President Customer
Development, Unilever U.S. "My colleagues and I have a long history
of helping our local communities and we are excited about bringing
this commitment to Las Vegas - knowing that we left our host city a
little better than we found it." Specifically, in partnering with
Habitat for Humanity, employees worked on two homes under
construction for families in Las Vegas, proper. Since its founding
in 1976, Habitat for Humanity works with community groups and
volunteers to build or renovate simple, decent homes. Habitat
relies on donations of labor, building materials and land to help
keep the cost of the houses down. For almost a decade, Unilever
United States has donated more than $800,000 towards the building
of ten houses, nationwide. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas
includes twelve different clubs located throughout the Las Vegas
metro area. At the Boulder City Club, Unilever employees restored
the overall facility. Activities included the set up of a new
playground, painting, and landscaping. Unilever also donated twenty
computers to the club. At the Andre Agassi Club located near the
downtown area, Unilever employees painted, installed book shelves
and landscaped the play areas. For more than 44 years, Boys &
Girls Clubs of Las Vegas has met the needs of their children by
developing self-esteem, courage and positive values. Unilever
partners with more than 25 Boys & Girls Clubs across the
country. At Lake Mead, Unilever volunteers worked on beautification
projects which included cleaning up the shoreline, restoring
walking paths, trimming campground vegetation and then,
constructing picnic tables and benches using materials made from
recycled plastic lumber donated by Unilever North America. Lake
Mead National Recreation Area is one of 55 National Parks Unilever
supports in the "Recycling at Work Program" which creates an
after-market for recycled plastic products, putting it to use in
National Parks to address various infrastructure needs. "Giving
back to communities has always been a proud hallmark of Unilever,"
added Art Drogue. "We are committed to helping make peoples' lives
healthier and more enjoyable - whenever and wherever possible. This
was a success and a great reward for everyone involved. I hope all
my colleagues will take this experience and continue to volunteer
at home." About Unilever Unilever (NYSE: UL, UN), one of the
