Dozens of law enforcement leaders will gather today in
Naperville, Ill., for a free, comprehensive identity theft training
led by the FBI-Law Enforcement Executive Development Association
(FBI-LEEDA) and partner and industry leader in identity management,
LifeLock, Inc. (NYSE: LOCK). The training, which has been completed
across all 50 states to nearly 13,000 law enforcement officials,
representing more than 4,500 agencies, will cover a range of
identity theft topics. Today’s participants will represent over
twenty local agencies from Chicago, Naperville and Aurora.
According to LifeLock data, Chicago ranks #1 in propensity of
identity fraud among the top ten most populated cities in the
United States.
“Identity theft is an evolving crime, and through these
trainings, we are able to connect law enforcement with the best
resources to do their jobs,” said Charles Robb, executive director
at FBI-LEEDA. “Education is core to law enforcement’s ability to
combat a crime that affects nearly one in four Americans.”
The training will feature demonstrations on the latest trending
devices used by fraudsters and provide Chicagoland law enforcement
leaders with the tools they need to help protect their communities
and assist victims. In addition, the program will cover a range of
identity theft topics, including relevant laws, identity theft
through sophisticated technology, identity theft awareness and
protection strategies, databases to assist in investigations and
investigative strategies. The FBI-LEEDA program instructor, Carol
Frederick, is a sworn in law enforcement official with over
twenty-five years of experience working on fraud and identity theft
cases.
“People are at more risk than before,” said Paige Hanson, chief
of identity education at LifeLock. Hanson, a founding designer of
the training course and instructor, will demonstrate the latest
technology on skimming devices. “We’re proud to partner with
FBI-LEEDA and are thrilled to celebrate our 200th training. With
nearly 13,000 officers trained, we’re confident we’ve put a sizable
roadblock in the way of identity thieves.”
