NEW YORK--Freeport-McMoRan Copper Gold Inc.'s (FCX)
copper-products plant in New Jersey has been taken offline after
Hurricane Sandy swept through the region while the company assesses
the damage to the facility, a spokesman told Dow Jones
Newswires.
Hurricane Sandy, which made landfall late Monday, caused
widespread flooding in New Jersey and New York City. Freeport's
Bayway facility is located in an industrial zone in Elizabeth,
N.J., and is adjacent to a tidal strait that separates Staten
Island from New Jersey.
Bayway produces specialty copper products for customers in
industries including transportation, communications, aerospace and
medical, according to Freeport's website. Freeport is the world's
largest publicly traded copper-mining company.
Freeport's copper-rod plant in Norwich, Conn., saw minimal
impact from the storm and was operating, spokesman Eric Kinneberg
said in an email late Tuesday.
