Caterpillar Inc. (CAT) on Thursday said it named Chief Executive Jim Umpleby to the additional position of chairman.

The Deerfield, Ill., maker of construction and mining equipment said Dave Calhoun, who has served as non-executive chairman since April 2017, will remain on the board as presiding director.

Mr. Umpleby took over as CEO at the start of 2017, succeeding Doug Oberhelman.
