Keeping Up With the Legislature has Never Been Easier

With the start of the 2019 legislative session Utah residents turn their attention to the business of state government. Utah.Gov and the Utah State Legislature work to provide useful tools to help Utahans track legislation and learn more about what legislators are proposing.

Last year the legislature launched a newly redesigned legislative website, le.utah.gov. The site helps Utah residents connect and interact with their legislators. Utah residents can learn about proposed and past legislation as well as listen to committees and floor debates.

“One of the primary goals of the Utah House is to be accessible to the public,” said Speaker of the House Brad Wilson. “In doing so, we need ensure that we are equipping our constituents with the tools to have meaningful interactions. The Department of Technology Services provides platforms that make the work we do more effective and meaningful. I’d encourage citizens to use them and engage.”

At le.utah.gov residents and interested parties can:

  • Find all proposed legislation
  • Create an account
  • Create lists for tracking legislation
  • Track your lists from any device
  • Follow the process and see status
  • See sponsors for legislation

The legislature also provides the Bill Watch mobile application, Bill Watch helps residents who want to keep up with legislative issues search for bills by topic, legislator's name, or bill number. The app will send updates directly to a mobile device via push notification. Bill Watch users can create and share lists of legislation with other concerned residents.

Find Bill Watch in the iTunes or Google Play Store to download the app.

“These simple online services help improve communication and make information about the legislative process easily accessible to all,” said Brad Wilson, Speaker of the House of Representatives. “They are an important tool to demonstrate our accountability to the people of Utah.”

Another way to learn more about what goes on at the capitol and on le.utah.gov is the capitol virtual tour. Website visitors can explore the capitol by moving in any direction in the 360-degree image and viewing points of interest that include exterior buildings, legislative chambers, artwork and building information. The tour’s exclusive access to the capitol provides stunning views that are not usually available to visitors.
