The first time a company receives the honor of significant positive contribution in the field of child abuse and neglect

West Virginia Interactive (WVI) has been awarded the 2013 Extra Mile Award by the WV Children’s Justice Task Force for making a significant positive contribution in the field of child abuse and neglect. This award is typically reserved to individuals who demonstrate excellence in the collaborative approach to protecting children from the devastating impact of child abuse and neglect. This was the first time that a company has been honored with the award.

“From day one, WVI has provided innovative web-based solutions to the West Virginia Prosecuting Attorney Institute that have allowed us to be more efficient and extend our outreach throughout the state,“ said Andrea L. Darr, WV CJTF Program Manager. “Our relationship with WVI has resulted in multiple successes, the next of which will be a mobile application that will provide first responders with easy access to resource contact information in situations where child abuse is involved. Expect to see this mobile application on Apple and Android marketplaces in early 2014.”

The Extra Mile Award is based on the mission of the WV Children’s Justice Task Force, which states that "child abuse and neglect are community problems requiring community solutions. The WV Children’s Justice Task Force, a multi-disciplinary body of public and private agencies and individuals, is committed to the protection of children. Our mission is to identify barriers to the successful resolution of child abuse and neglect issues and to educate and advocate for change."

Additional recipients to the 2013 award were:

  • 1st Sgt. Danny Swiger – WV State Police, Crimes Against Children Unit
  • Peggy Brown, APA – Cabell County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office
  • Maureen Runyon – CAMC Child Advocacy Center
