Germany's TUI Deutschland, a unit of TUI Travel PLC (TT.LN), won't yet pass higher aviation fuel costs on to its customers through a fuel surcharge, unlike other German travel operators, a company spokesman said Monday.

The company is keeping a close eye on fuel cost developments, however, spokesman Mario Koepers said. TUI Travel is majority-owned by TUI AG (TUI1.XE).

Peer Thomas Cook AG Monday increased fares to include a fuel surcharge. From April 1, a EUR7 surcharge will be added to short-haul return flights from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Medium- and long-haul flights will have EUR13 and EUR29 surcharges, respectively, for return flights, a Thomas Cook spokesman said.
