Total Voting Rights

Pursuant to Disclosure and Transparency Rule 5.6.1, New Star Private Equity
Investment Trust PLC (the "Company") hereby announces that at 30 September 2008
the Company's issued share capital comprised 19,682,212 ordinary shares,
including 832,000 shares held in treasury. Accordingly the total number of
voting rights in the Company is 18,850,212.

The above figure (18,850,212) may be used by shareholders as the denominator
for the calculations by which they will determine if they are required to
notify their interest in, or a change to their interest in, the Company under
the FSA's Disclosure and Transparency Rules.
