Update re Takeover and Change in Substantial Shareholder Interest

Aztec notes that an announcement has been made today by Mount Gibson Iron
Limited ("Mt Gibson") of the extension of the closing date of Mt Gibson's offers
made under its off-market takeover bid for all the fully paid ordinary shares in
Aztec (the "Offer") to 5pm Western Australian time on 22 December 2006.

Aztec was also informed today by Mt Gibson that its interest in Aztec is now
671,304,094 ordinary shares or 59.34%, including shares owned by parties who
have accepted the Offer. The previous notice by Mt Gibson of its interest in
Aztec, on 4 December 2006, stated that at that time Mt Gibson had an interest in
647,700,251 ordinary shares or 57.25%.
