Fans Voting Online Determined Best Play DETROIT, Dec. 6
/PRNewswire/ -- Pontiac revealed the California v. Stanford game of
Nov. 20, 1982, as its "Ultimate High-Performance Play of the
NCAA(R)," crowning the play as NCAA Football(R)'s most memorable
moment of all-time. The match-up was Stanford quarterback John
Elway's last collegiate game and a 25-20 win against California.
The game is remembered for its bizarre finish, too: California
players bowling into members of the Stanford band, which had taken
one end of the field in preparation for a closing performance. The
Pontiac Ultimate High-Performance Play of the NCAA(R) was announced
during halftime at the Big 12 Championship Game today on ABC
Sports. The plays were first established in collaboration with the
NCAA, CBS, ESPN, ESPN Classic and ABC Sports. The play can
currently be viewed along with the other top four contenders on
http://www.espn.com/pontiac. With more than half a million online
visits to http://www.espn.com/pontiac, the California/Stanford game
was chosen over four other noteworthy and memorable NCAA Football
last-minute plays. "This play is the best of the best when it comes
to game-defining and visceral moments that have immortalized
college football and NCAA sports," said Dino Bernacchi, Pontiac
advertising manager. "We're proud to be associated with the passion
and performance exemplified in this play, and we remain excited to
continue our partnership with the NCAA." Consumers who visited
http://www.espn.com/pontiac also were eligible to enter a contest
for the Ultimate Performance Package, which includes an all-new,
V-8 powered, 2004 Pontiac Bonneville GXP and a trip for four to the
2004 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl in Tempe, Arizona. The package includes
round-trip air transportation; three days/two nights hotel
accommodations; four seats at the game; and VIP access that
includes a visit to the playing field at halftime and tours of the
broadcast booth and production trailer. The winner will be
announced at a later date. Pontiac first started its NCAA
relationship as an Official Corporate Champion with a promotion
around the 2003 NCAA Men's Final Four(R), which featured the all
time greatest, exciting and game-defining NCAA Basketball(R)
moments, which defined its divisional tagline of "Fuel for the
Soul" and were called the "Pontiac High-Performance Plays of the
NCAA(R)." DATASOURCE: General Motors Corporation CONTACT: Cindy
