Amanta Resources Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:AMH) (Amanta) is pleased to report on the
progress being made at its Luang Namtha copper concession, in northern Laos,
where initial work by Amanta reconnaissance teams has led to the discovery of
abundant evidence of copper, silver and molybdenum mineralization. Amanta has
now set up project offices in Luang Namtha province and a corporate office in
Vientiane.
Amanta has contracted Intergeo, a Vietnamese exploration services company, to
conduct a broad scale mapping and sampling programme throughout the 200 km2
concession area. The initial contract with Intergeo includes reconnaissance
exploration, stream sediment and rock sampling and geologic mapping at the scale
of 1:100,000. The contract value is approximately CAD$80,000 and the work should
be completed in early-2009.
Amanta's own field crews have now commenced a detailed sampling and mapping
programme within the previously discovered area of copper and molybdenum
mineralisation, now named the Phakieng prospect, covering an area of about 12
km2 and containing the previously reported mineralized outcrops and extensive
'boulder field'. The 'boulder field' displays large, man-size, boulders of
porphyritic acid volcanic float assaying up to 5% copper and 4 oz/t of silver.
The initial area of interest lies to the north and south of a large porphyritic
intrusive dome with a distinct vegetation anomaly. On the southern edge of the
intrusive, an outcrop of secondary copper-rich material has been observed. Rock
chip samples from this outcrop average over 2% copper and 4 oz/t of silver. The
field crews have determined that this oxidised outcrop appears to be up to 50
metres thick and additional mineralised outcrops have been discovered in the
area.
To the north of the intrusive, a large outcrop of Silicified andesitic breccia
material can be followed for approximately 100 metres and is up to 15 metres
thick. Rock chip samples from this outcrop return assay results of up to 0.8%
molybdenum and up to 0.5 g/t gold.
A sampling grid, covering an area of 12 km2, has been cut and surveyed in the
area. Sampling lines are spaced 500 metres apart, to facilitate a grid-sampling
programme and permit planned initial ground geophysical programmes to be
completed.
A surface sampling programme is being carried out throughout the Phakieng
prospect and surrounding area, and assay results from the first 53 samples have
been received by the company. 40 rock-chip samples were taken within the area of
copper mineralisation and assay values ranged up to 5.94% Cu, while the average
for all samples was 1.1% Cu. The remaining 13 samples were taken within the
molybdenum-rich area to the north and assay values ranged up to 0.68% Mo, while
the average for all samples was 0.12% Mo.
These results indicate that the copper-mineralized area, over which outcrop and
float averages more than 1% copper, with economic silver grades often in excess
of 1 oz/t, extends beyond the initial surveyed area. It follows the approximate
strike of the large strike-slip faults characterizing the tectonic setting and,
at present, has a length of some 4,000 metres. The width is as yet undetermined,
but approaches 1,000 metres in places. The widespread and high grade nature of
the mineralization encountered so far suggests the potential for a very large
exploration target.
The present phase of the exploration programmes should be completed by February,
2009, following which Amanta will consider the need for further detailed rock
sampling and, possibly, trenching work. This work will be followed by airborne
Magnetic and EM surveys, ground geophysics and further mapping and sampling.
The Luang Namtha copper concession is located some 600 kms north of Vientiane
and is, geologically, part of the Yulong - Luang Namtha porphyry copper and
polymetallic belt. In addition to Amanta's concession, mineralization in this
belt includes the giant Yulong porphyry copper deposit with 630Mt @ 1% Cu and
several smaller porphyries as well as a multitude of copper-silver deposits,
polymetallic occurrences, massive sulphides and sediment hosted high grade
replacement bodies. Amanta holds a 100% interest in the Luang Namtha project and
is the first Canadian company to be granted a mineral exploration concession in
the Lao PDR.
Amanta Resources Ltd. is focused on mineral exploration, development and
production in the Lao PDR and Thailand.
