Northwest Offers New 'FlyNow' Option For Customers Making Same-Day
Travel Changes Carrier introduces low-cost option for confirming
alternative flight in addition to free standby option MINNEAPOLIS,
May 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Northwest Airlines (NASDAQ:NWAC)
today introduced a new "FlyNow" option that allows customers to
make confirmed same-day changes to their domestic flights for a $25
fee. "Our new FlyNow option offers our customers a reasonably
priced alternative to standing by for another flight on the day
that they are ticketed," said Jim Cron, vice president of domestic
revenue management. "For $25, FlyNow provides customers changing to
an earlier or later flight with more options, greater control and
the peace of mind of knowing that they are confirmed for their new
desired itinerary." Effective immediately, if eligible seats are
available on the desired Northwest or Northwest Airlink-operated
domestic flights scheduled within three hours of the time the
customer checks in for their original flight, Northwest will
confirm the customer on the alternate flight or flights and issue
boarding passes for the new $25 FlyNow fee. Some full fares
continue to feature a lower fee, or no fee, for making changes. In
addition, Northwest will allow customers to use the FlyNow option
on different routings to their destination. For example, if a
customer was scheduled for a domestic connection through
Northwest's Minneapolis/St. Paul hub, and a connection through the
airline's Detroit hub will get them to their destination earlier,
customers choosing the FlyNow option could be confirmed on the
Detroit connection, if eligible space is available. COMPLIMENTARY
STANDBY OPTION ALSO ENHANCED Northwest is continuing to offer its
customers the option of standing by for an earlier or later
domestic flight on the same day at no cost. Once a customer checks
in for their original flight at the airline's nwa.com Check-In
service via the Internet, through an airport self-service check-in
kiosk or through a Northwest customer service agent, the customer
can indicate their desire to standby for another flight. Northwest
is enhancing its complimentary standby option by placing customers
on the standby lists for both their first flight and their domestic
connecting flight at their initial point of check-in. Previously,
standby was only offered on a flight-by-flight basis at
intermediate points. If seats are unavailable on the first flight
for which the customer would like to stand by, the customer will be
added to the standby list of the next possible flight. Northwest
