American Express Co. said it is expanding its relationship with
Microsoft Corp. to develop a suite of business-travel focused
solutions that would be built on Microsoft Cloud and artificial
intelligence technologies.
The first tool built through the partnership would be focused on
improving the expense-management process. The company said business
travelers would be prompted to upload a picture of their receipt,
then an AI-powered tool would categorize the transaction and give
it a risk score that determines whether a human should look more
closely at the purchase.
Microsoft will pilot the technology with its own employees later
this year, the companies said.
The expanded partnership marks one of the first such deals since
Microsoft expanded its investment in OpenAI, the company behind
ChatGPT and other breakout successes that feature generative AI
technology.
