Himax Technologies, Inc. Provides Quad HD Display Driver IC for the World’s First Tango-Enabled AR Smartphone
17 Juni 2016 - 11:30AM
Himax Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:HIMX) (“Himax” or “Company”), a
leading supplier and fabless manufacturer of display drivers and
other semiconductor products, today announced Himax’s HX8396-A
display driver IC from its family of Quad HD ("QHD"),
high-resolution display drivers, has secured the design win in the
world’s first augmented reality ("AR") smartphone, Lenovo Phab 2
Pro. The Phab 2 Pro is built on Google’s Project Tango platform, a
new technology that enables location-specific content for AR gaming
and utilities on mobile devices.
The Tango-enabled phone is an innovative,
high-performance device that user could experience augmented
reality games and applications available through the Google Play
Store. To further enhance the viewing experience in multiple
conditions, Himax’s QHD resolution display driver ICs incorporate
industry’s most advanced set of image-enhancing technologies
through built-in Optimal Display Synthesizer (ODS) to deliver
advanced features, including Color Enhancement (CE), Content
Adaptive Brightness Control (CABC) and Sunlight Readability
Enhancement (SRE). These unique drivers are also the smallest and
the most power-efficient driver ICs available for high-end
smartphones. HX8396-A is compatible with all mainstream application
processors and adopted by major panel makers and leading smartphone
brand customers with mass production started in 2015.
"Our high-resolution display drivers have been
widely adopted by the world’s major LTPS panel makers due to our
leading technologies. This design win is another validation of our
products featured in high-end mobile devices," stated Jordan Wu,
Chief Executive Officer and President of Himax Technologies, Inc.
"Additionally, we have been actively participating in the booming
AR sector through our LCOS and WLO technologies with unique
position as the provider of choice for microdisplay and related
optics to enable AR. We believe applications for AR expanding from
AR glasses and head-up displays for automotive applications to
smartphones will advance the evolving AR market to become a
multi-billion dollar industry."
