Securely processed more than $70 million in
transfer taxes online
The Vermont Department of Taxes today announced its 50,000th
electronic property transfer tax (ePTTR) return since the online
application first launched in 2011. Built at no cost to the state
over a two-year period between 2009 and 2011 by the state’s
eGovernment partner, Vermont Information Consortium (VIC), the
service has also securely processed more than $70 million in
property transfer taxes online.
“The electronic Property Transfer Tax Return service has been an
extremely convenient service for Vermont property buyers and
sellers, title attorneys, and town clerks across the state for the
past three years,” said Jamie Gage, VIC General Manager.
The ePTTR service has streamlined the property transfer process
in Vermont for a wide array of stakeholders including Vermont
municipal officials, buyers/sellers and their attorneys, and
Department of Taxes employees in several key ways:
- Providing more accurate and timely
information about properties in the transfer of ownership,
- Allowing multiple parties to work on
returns together electronically,
- And expediting payment to the state via
ACH Debit.
Accessible online 24/7/365 at
https://secure.vermont.gov/TAX/pttr, adoption rates on the service
have grown significantly since launch, from 8,600 returns processed
in 2011, nearly one-third of all returns processed by the state, to
more than 16,000, or 60 percent, processed online last year. Built
under a self-funded model by VIC, the application rounds out an
impressive suite of online services for the Department of Taxes,
including VTBizFile, VTPay, Tax Refund Status, Homestead
Declaration, and soon -- the online public submission service for
Current Use applications to the state.
