With the merger of the State Rail Authority and the Rail
Infrastructure Corporation, Rail Corporation New South Wales
(RailCorp) knew it had to make some changes in the way it did
business. The agency set about transforming its procurement
capabilities, introducing new procure-to-pay (P2P) processes, a new
procurement organizational structure and operating model, and new
procurement technology from Ariba, Inc. (Nasdaq:ARBA), the leading
spend management solutions provider. In conjunction with its
implementation partner, RailCorp has deployed Ariba’s offerings to
power a full-scale procurement transformation initiative designed
to increase the transparency of its processes, increase compliance
and deliver savings and efficiencies that positively impact the
organization and its bottom line.
RailCorp has implemented the full suite of Ariba’s solutions,
including offerings for spend analysis, sourcing and contract
management, purchasing, invoice and payment and supplier
management. Using the offerings, RailCorp has created a standard
process for purchasing across the entire enterprise and new
frameworks for managing contracts, suppliers and risk complete with
standard reporting and control measures.
Ariba’s sourcing solutions are currently being used to drive
more than 300 sourcing projects worth over $900 million at
RailCorp. And they’re delivering results. The group conducted one
of the first and largest online reverse auctions in the history of
New South Wales government, worth over $60 million with exceptional
results in terms of savings and speed to contract award. And it has
saved the company millions of dollars on contract labor alone.
The team now has its sights set on driving additional savings
through process efficiencies and is implementing Ariba’s Invoice
and Payment offerings to streamline and enhance its accounts
payable function.
“Many companies struggle to establish transparent procurement
processes and drive compliance with them,” said James McParlane,
General Manager, Ariba New Zealand. “By leveraging technology-based
solutions to drive best practice processes, RailCorp has
successfully overcome this challenge and transformed procurement
into a strategic function that is creating value across its
operations.”
Ariba’s solutions are currently used by 94 of the Fortune 100
and more than 200,000 other companies to control costs, minimize
risk, improve profits and optimize cash flow and operations. To
