GYRUS GROUP PLC ANNOUNCES DISPOSAL OF NON-CORE
SURGICAL DRAPES BUSINESS FOR $4M
READING, UK - Gyrus Group PLC, (GYG.L "Gyrus" or "the Group") a world leading
supplier of medical devices to reduce trauma and complications in surgery,
announces that it has disposed of its non-core surgical drapes business to
Microtek Medical Inc for $4 million (#2.5m) in cash.
> The surgical drapes business, sterile coverings for equipment used in the
operative field, was acquired with the Smith+Nephew ENT business in June 2001.
> Since acquisition, sales of surgical drapes have been at an annualised
rate of just over #2 million.
> The proceeds from the sale less asset value and costs will be treated as
an exceptional profit in the year ending 31st December 2002.
"The sale of surgical drapes has become increasingly specialised and does not
fit with our strategy focused on integrating and broadening the applications of
our PlasmaKinetic technology across each of the markets we serve. This disposal
will enhance that focus as well as providing additional reserves for the Group
to implement its strategy", said Mark Goble, Gyrus Group Managing Director.
