Benfield, the world's leading independent reinsurance and risk intermediary, has
announced today that an application has been made to the UK Listing Authority
and the London Stock Exchange for an additional block listing of 16 million
Common shares of #0.01 each to trade on the London Stock Exchange. These shares
will be admitted to the Official List upon issuance. These shares will rank pari
passu with the existing issued shares of the Company.

The block listing is pursuant to potential issuance under the following schemes:

 13,000,000 shares under the 2002 Incentive Plan and;
  3,000,000 shares under the 2003 Performance Incentive Plan

The total inclusive of the additional listing pursuant to each scheme is as
follows:-

   3,203,993 shares under the 1998 Share Option Scheme
   1,338,690 shares under the 2001 Deferred Share Unit ("DSU") Retention Plan
  12,897,425 shares under the 2002 Incentive Plan
   3,000,000 shares under the 2003 Performance Incentive Plan

The current issued share capital is 234,071,762 Common shares of #0.01 each. The
enlarged issued share capital pursuant to the potential issuance will be
250,071,762 Common shares.
