NEW YORK, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SOUTH AMERICAN MINERALS, INC. (Pink Sheets: SAMM) announced today that preliminary reports of gold production for the year ending December 31, 2008 as reported by its wholly owned subsidiary North American Resources, Inc. Ltd (NARIL), was 4,248 ounces compared to 3,635 ounces produced in the same period 2007. Sales of the gold produced in 2008 returned $3,327,707 compared with sales of $2,176,972 in 2007. Production was achieved by 1 hydraulic suction dredge operated in the Konawaruk River area of the Republic of Guyana South America during January and February, 2008 and 3 dredges operated during the period March through December, 2008. Production during October through December 2008 was 1,257 ounces by the 3 dredges, which sold for $918,634 compared with 710 ounces in the same three month period in 2007 which sold for $492,732. Two of these dredges are owned by a joint venture in which Naril owns a 65% interest. In addition, Naril operates one wholly owned dredge with a second wholly owned dredge currently being repaired before returning to service. The Company is also pleased to announce that it is proceeding with preliminary evaluation of certain of its mineral claims in San Juan County, Utah. The Company previously released several claims.
