ST. LOUIS, Sept. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Patriot Coal
Corporation (NYSE: PCX) today announced that the Kentucky
Department for Natural Resources recognized the Patriot Surface
Mine at the Bluegrass Complex in Henderson County, Kentucky, for its
reclamation efforts. The Commissioner's Reclamation Award is
presented annually to acknowledge exceptional reclamation
activities in the state of Kentucky.
"We are very pleased to receive the Commissioner's award for
outstanding reclamation. In this project, we restored the
property to forest, crop, and wildlife habitat land uses, the same
uses that existed before mining. Additionally, our
reclamation area included wetlands and two permanent ponds, and we
are restoring the streams on the property to a condition more
conducive to vegetation and wildlife than the original state,"
noted Patriot Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Charles A. Ebetino, Jr. "This
award attests to our core value of being a good steward of the
environment and a good neighbor in the communities where we
operate."
