Usability on mobile devices is a win for
Colorado and its citizens
Colorado’s Online Drivers License Renewal service
(http://www.colorado.gov/vroom) recently won a Bronze Horizon
Interactive Award for its responsive design. The prestigious
international awards competition recognizes outstanding achievement
among interactive media producers who have achieved the best blend
between creativity and functionality.
“With the increased use of online services, it is exciting for
the DMV to make available a responsive design that affords
customers a more user friendly experience,” said Mike Dixon,
director of the Division of Motor Vehicles. “Winning this award
means that we are continuing to move in the right direction towards
bringing convenience and accessibility to the citizens of
Colorado.”
The Colorado Department of Revenue, Division of Motor Vehicles,
worked together with Colorado Interactive, (dba Colorado.gov), and
SIPA, (Statewide Internet Portal Authority) to make the Online
Drivers License Renewal service mobile-friendly. The service offers
support for various device types and screen resolutions, and
delivers touch screen and swipe functionality while utilizing a
single code base and content repository.
In 2013 there were 231,205 licensed Colorado drivers eligible to
renew online, of those, over 161,000 citizens elected to renew
their Colorado Drivers License or State ID online. The State of
Colorado had an adoption rate of 69 percent for online renewals in
2013, which is a five percent increase over the previous year.
